Crews from multiple agencies knocked down a brush fire north of Congress on Saturday afternoon. The blaze started just before noon.
Approximately 38 acres burned between the railroad tracks and Hillside Road, according to Wickenburg Fire Chief Ed Temerowski, who responded along with crews from Bureau of Land Management Weaver Mountain Station, Congress Fire Department and Yarnell Fire Department.
As the fire grew in the 20+ mph winds, air support was called in, including the Weaver Mountain Helitack crew and two single engine air tankers (SEAT) from the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. The planes dropped four loads of retardant, with a helicopter sling loading bambi bucket loads from nearby lakes to drop on the fire. Meanwhile, ground crews, wildland engines and water tenders also worked to douse the flames. By nightfall, the blaze was contained. The cause is under investigation.
