The local Andalusian Government in Malaga, Spain declared a level 1 emergency plan activation in the area due to forest fires near Casares, Malaga, close to La Arquita.
A Level 1 alert is activated to protect people and property in Spain when a wildfire comes within a certain proximity, triggering several areas in the region to be evacuated.
Six firefighting aircraft were dispatched to the area to fight the wildfire threat along with two fire engines, 36 firefighters, and various government coordinators who worked to control the blaze.
Unlike recent testing in the United States and Australia, Spanish firefighting authorities are unable to work after dark, forcing the aerial firefighting effort to cease as nightfall arrived. At the height of firefighting efforts, 120 firefighters worked through the night to contain the blaze that Spanish officials stated was majority contained this morning.
