About 500 homes in Cave Creek have been evacuated as a three-alarm brush fire continues to grow and has burned multiple homes.
As of 11:30 a.m. Sunday, the fire burned more than 1,250 acres and is 5% contained. Aerial firefighting teams have been called in, and have been dumping water from golf-course lakes on the flames.
The Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management issued an evacuation notice, which didn’t identify specific regions for evacuation — leading some to believe the entire county was being evacuated. They later clarified the alert was for areas near the fire.
