LANSING, Mich. — The USDA Forest Service has prepositioned aerial firefighting resources in Gaylord in anticipation of wildfire during a stretch of Very High to Extreme fire danger. Two Amphibious Air Tractor 802F(AT-802F) Scooping Single Engine Air Tankers, a Chinook-47 (CH47) Type 1 helicopter, and an Aero-Commander (AC-690) which serves as the Air Attack Platform make up the fleet of aerial suppression resources.
“The aircraft serves all federal, state and local land management agencies responsible for wildfire response,” said Eastern Region North Zone Aviation Officer Chad Runyan. “Aircraft allows for the quickest attack with a larger delivery of water than a typical fire engine can carry. It also reduces the need for ground-based firefighting operations on initial attack.”
