The aerial firefighting community is in mourning today after confirmation of a mid-air collision occurring on the Bishop Fire that is still burning approximately 17 Miles Southwest of Caliente, Nevada.
The mid-air collision involved two Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT) aircraft that were working a U.S. Department of the Interior firefighting contract.
Although little is known about the conditions and cause of the crash that occurred at 12:55 p.m local time on July 30th, it has been confirmed by the BLM that both pilots suffered fatal injuries in the crash and the aircraft registered to a contract supplier based in Texas were substantially damaged in the crash.
