Saturday's Hutchinson Regional Airport Fly-In and Open House gave visitors a chance to view airplanes, jets, gliders, gyrocopters and helicopters for free.
Children ages 8 to 17 were given the opportunity to ride in an airplane free through the Young Eagles program. Two water bomber aerial displays occurred and a weather balloon was launched at the airport.
Bill Garrison demonstrated his Tanker 95 aerial firefighting airplane, a converted Grumman S-2 that has a 1,000-gallon water tank, that he uses to fight wildfires in Kansas and nearby states through the Kansas Forest Service.
Zack Clobes filled a weather balloon with hydrogen and launched it at noon at the airport with the help of many volunteers.
A new addition to the original air show line-up was a Douglas A-26 Invader named "Lady Liberty" that was built during World War II as a fast attack, light bomber. It was on active military service from World War II to Vietnam and is the oldest plane still flying in the U.S. Its home base is now Enid, Oklahoma.
