Wildfires in California in 2020 burned a record 4.3 million acres, damaging or destroying 10,500 structures and killing 33 people.
This year’s wildfire season is predicted to be another severe one. From January 1 to April 29, 2021, there were about 17,405 wildfires, compared to 11,885 in the same period 2020, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. About 461,254 acres were burned, compared to 220,823 in 2020.
In a groundbreaking development, CA firefighting agencies and Southern California Edison (SCE) are teaming up to provide Quick Reaction Force (QRF) – state-of-the-art firefighting aircraft to battle the devastating fires the state endures every year.
Firefighting agencies, including the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), and Ventura County Fire Department, in partnership with SCE, are expanding their capabilities to combat California’s wildfire threat.
