Four helicopters have been called in to fight a scrub fire threatening a pine forest near Waimate in the South Island.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Simon Lyford said the fire on Parkers Bush Rd just east of Waimate was reported at about 5.51pm. He said the fire was contained by about 9pm.
He said the fire was inaccessible from the ground and so four helicopters had been called to the scene. One was at the scene and three others were on the way, he said.
