The U.S. Forest Service reported recently that crews reseeded 57 miles of dozer lines from last summer’s Cub Creek 2 and Cedar Creek fires, which burned more than 125,000 acres, using a helicopter.
The operation was conducted in less than 24 hours in November.
Crews dropped a mix of native seeds to help reduce erosion and prevent invasive species.
“We had great conditions for the heli-seeding operation,” said Methow Valley Ranger District Botanist Kelly Baraibar in a news release posted to social media on Thursday (Feb. 3.) “Broadcast seeding, via a helicopter, is a common occurrence after a large wildfire occurs.”
