Olegas Bluff Bushfire Update

The Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) continues in its efforts to fight a bushfire burning within the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park and on Aboriginal Land Council Tasmania land.

The fireground remains at 340ha in size and is situated approximately 17 km northwest of Strathgordon. The fire perimeter has not significantly changed over the past 6 days, there is light smoke coming from the fire ground and no running fire.

PWS Incident Controller Nic Deka said, “Conditions on the fireground have been favourable over the last few days which has allowed ground crews, in conjunction with aerial support to make good progress in eliminating hotspots around the fire edge”

“Aboriginal firefighters from the PWS and Pakana Rangers from the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre have been on the fire ground assessing the Aboriginal heritage sites. They are working with the Incident Management Team and fire crews in providing guidance for managing these sites.”
