Bernalillo County Sheriff Helicopter Crashes While Working East Mesa Fire

Albuquerque, New Mexico – In a press release posted today by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, the agency confirmed the loss of their Metro 2 aircraft, believed to be a Bell UH1-H Huey that was working the East Mesa Fire near Las Vegas, NM and was headed back to the agencies base in Albuquerque when the accident occurred.

The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that there were four people on on board. Three Bernalillo County Deputies, along with one staff member from the Bernalillo County Fire Department. BCSO further confirmed there were no survivors.

BCSO officials and representatives from the New Mexico State Police are on the scene and will await representatives from the NTSB to begin the investigation into the crash.
