A wildfire ignited on Monday afternoon in the vicinity of Agios Silas, Limassol, Cyprus, threatening dry grasslands and wild vegetation. The incident was reported to local authorities, and an immediate response was initiated to contain the blaze.
The fire, which started in an area close to the industrial zone of Agios Silas, rapidly spread, fueled by strong winds. Firefighters from the Limassol Fire Stations were dispatched to the scene, with a total of six fire trucks, in an effort to combat the rapidly advancing flames.
One of the challenges faced by the firefighting crews was the rugged and inaccessible terrain in the vicinity, making it difficult to reach the fire’s epicenter. To address this, additional ground firefighting forces were called in to support the effort. Notably, two helicopters belonging to the Republic of Cyprus were employed for water drops, providing an aerial assault on the fire and helping to contain its spread.
