Two CAL FIRE Contractors Perish in Accident in Humboldt County, CA

A Cessna 206 Stationair aircraft was involved in an accident near Kneeland Airport in Humboldt County, California, at approximately 11:04 AM PST on July 23rd.

The aircraft departed the CAL FIRE base in Sacramento at approximately 9:49 AM, carrying two CAL FIRE contractors that the agency has confirmed worked for Ammentum Aviation, CAL FIRE’s primary contractor for pilot and maintenance staff members.

AerialFire contacted CAL FIRE and received confirmation that the two crew members on board the aircraft did not survive the accident.

“CAL FIRE can confirm there was an aircraft incident at Kneeland Airport in Humboldt County yesterday morning. Two people were killed. They were employees of Amentum Aviation, a contractor that CAL FIRE works with for aviation services. Our heart goes out to the families of those employees and to the Amentum Aviation family,” stated a public information officer in regard to yesterday’s incident.

CAL FIRE crews were also dispatched to extinguish a post-crash fire from the incident that had spread to nearby land. The NTSB will continue the investigation into the cause of Tuesday’s accident.
