Oregon’s Record Wildfire Season Prompts $47.5 Million Emergency Funding Request

The Oregon Department of Forestry is requesting emergency funding to pay for the most expensive wildfire season Oregon has ever seen.

Because of the extreme fire season, ODF will likely have to go back to the emergency board in December.

Almost two million acres burned from wildfires in Oregon.

It has been a record-breaking season for acres burned in the state and the cost matches the severity.

Kyle Williams, deputy director of Fire Operations, says, “If you look back at the last decade, average acres burned statewide is around 660,000. And so we’ve essentially fit three fire seasons worth of acres into the last three months.”
