CAL FIRE’s First Modified C-130 Hercules Airtanker has Been Used at Over 15 Fires Since August, Enhancing Firefighting Capabilities

Since going into service on August 26, 2024, Tanker 122, (the first of CAL FIRE’s seven C-130 Hercules airtankers) has flown more than 15 fires, dropping over 140,000 gallons of retardant.

With 4,000 gallons of retardant per load and a cruise speed of 330-mph, this aircraft is a powerful addition to the already impressive fleet. The C-130H is another resource helping us achieve our mission of keeping 95% of fires at 10 acres or less.
