The second crash in just over a week occurred Tuesday fighting the 1,100 acre White River Fire near Mt. Hood National Forest.
Although few details have been released on the incident, Officials from the U.S Forest service stated that the Kaman K-Max helicopter was doing bucket drops in an area of rough terrain fighting the White River fire that was started by lighting approximately 13 miles south of Government Camp.
"The firefighting community is heartbroken to learn of this tragic loss and our condolences go out to the pilot's family, friends, and co-workers," the U.S. Forest Service said in a statement.
The Wasco County Sheriff and U.S Forest Service air and ground units were dispatched to the site of the crash where the pilot was found to have not survived the crash.
