Australia's Royal Commission on last year's devastating fires around the country has concluded with more than 80 recommendations that include forming a body that will focus solely on long term policy, national preparation, response, and recovery from natural disasters.
One of the other recommendations focuses on easing the accessibility and red tape involved in bringing in Australian Defence Force aircraft and personnel to assist in aerial firefighting missions that include the evacuation of trapped residents during fast-moving fires.
The most significant development for the aerial firefighting industry recommended by the commission was the establishment of an Australian based aerial firefighting aircraft fleet, which many companies that provide international aircraft have already begun creating as companies like Coulson Aviation open Australian bases and Australian companies such as McDermott Aviation and Kestrel Aviation continue to expand their already large fleets.
