CAL FIRE and US Forest Service Begin Aerial Firefighting Training

Earplugs were surely needed Wednesday morning because of the loud planes used to protect the Northstate during wildfires.

Ahead of fire season, CAL FIRE and the Shasta-Trinity US Forest Service (USFS) are working together to train pilots and fight fires.

Just north of the airport is the Redding Air Attack Base, where one CAL FIRE and one USFS worker—both just landed after training high in the sky.

“We just landed from training missions where we coordinated the plane to the fire, gave a size-up to dispatch…and dropped tanker retardant on these fires,” said Trainee Curtis Wilcox. He came up from near Fresno in the Central Valley. Read more on this story at KRCR.com
