Air Tractor Is Top Turboprop Aircraft Producer Worldwide

OLNEY, Texas – Air Tractor, Inc. is the world's top producer of general aviation turboprop airplanes, according to the General Aviation Manufacturing Association.

"In recent years, the demand for Air Tractor aircraft has steadily risen, particularly internationally,” said Jim Hirsch, Air Tractor president. “We are proud of our contributions to efficiency, productivity, and safety in both our agricultural market and the firefighting sector. Our team remains committed to meeting the growing global demand while maintaining the high standards that define Air Tractor."

In its 2024 Aircraft Shipment and Billing Report, GAMA lists Air Tractor with 210 turboprop aircraft, reinforcing Air Tractor’s leadership in its agricultural, aerial firefighting, and utility aircraft sectors. Hirsch reports that Air Tractor plans to produce 215 aircraft in 2025.

The milestone comes as Air Tractor concluded its 50th anniversary celebration in 2024. Since its founding, the company has remained focused on manufacturing purpose-built, reliable aircraft designed for aerial application, firefighting, and specialized applications.

A key contributor to the success of Air Tractor is its longstanding partnership with Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC), the manufacturer of the PT6 turboprop engines that power Air Tractor aircraft. Known for its reliability and performance, the PT6 engine has been an integral part of Air Tractor airplanes for decades.

"The strong relationship between Air Tractor and Pratt & Whitney Canada has been instrumental in delivering high-quality aircraft to our customers for 50 years now," Hirsch said. "This partnership has played a significant role in making Air Tractor the industry leader it is today and ensures that every aircraft we produce is equipped with a dependable turboprop engine our customers can rely on."

About Air Tractor

At its Olney, Texas manufacturing facilities, Air Tractor produces a line of eight aircraft that includes 400, 500, 600, and 800-gallon capacity airplanes powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada turboprop engines. They are used for agricultural purposes, fighting wildfires, narcotic crop eradication, fuel-hauling to remote villages, fighting locust plagues, mosquito control, and cleaning up oil spills in coastal waters. From North, South, and Central America, to Australia, Indonesia, Spain, Italy, Croatia, and Africa, Air Tractor aircraft can be found in more than 50 countries around the world and are supported by a global network of Air Tractor dealers.
